About the AGSU

The Anthropology Graduate Student Union (AGSU) is a by-students-for-students organization at the University of Toronto. All U of T Anthropology graduate students are automatically members. AGSU’s job is to keep members informed about their rights and responsibilities, involved in the community, and in touch with the resources provided by the department and the university at large. The AGSU also represents the needs and interests of members to the department, CUPE and the GSU.

The Anthropology Graduate Student Union (AGSU) operates with two integral components: the general membership and the executive body. The general membership encompasses all graduate students within the Department of Anthropology, fostering a diverse and inclusive community.

The executive body is comprised of elected AGSU members, each assuming distinct leadership roles within the executive committee. This dedicated team plays a crucial role in guiding the union's initiatives, organizing events, and providing support to anthropology graduate students within the department. It is noteworthy that the AGSU is governed by a constitution, accessible here, which outlines the fundamental principles and guidelines that shape its operations. This living document is subject to regular revisions, and any changes are democratically adopted through a general membership vote. These revisions are undertaken to continuously improve and better support AGSU members, adapting to the evolving needs of the graduate student community within the U of T Department of Anthropology.
